Intermittent fasting - anyone here do it / done it? it's a alternative to 6 meals a day for leaning out while not losing muscle mass?

I'm currently in the process of using it for leaning out for running. So far seems quite good.
This is what I'm following and the good thing is, you are still increasing muscle / strength while losing raw fat. (Compared to say Atkins where you generally lose both fat / muscle).

Typical results of people leaning out while retaining / gaining muscle:

Why was the last one deleted?

As in the other thread, internet scheme Paul.

I'm surprised it's taken you this long to try if you've read 4 hour body.

i dont understand the logic of also working out and eating nothing after working out? i thought the idea was to train and then eat to replenish muscles and nutrients?

seems like a strange way to do it? your fasting in your sleep which is what most people do anyway? the only difference with it seems to be you skip breakfast?

There are millions of these schemes, all with some impressive before and after pictures.

It just needs hard work and a half decent diet, nothing more complicated.

John the last thread turned into a discussion about atkins which is something completely different.

I can't vouch for this IF stuff, but there's a fairly hefty thread about it on bodybuilding.com - http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=131542323

As a brief starter to it all, read 'eat stop eat'. Essentially these short fasts are supposed to be triggering the body's fat cells into releasing the fat, rather than holding onto it. So then when you train fasted (supplemented by BCAAs) you are targeting the fat a lot more than usual. Then after the training your consuming most of your daily intake of carbs / protein / cals in a short window of time - so you're giving your body a kick start to the muscle growth.

so what exactly will the BCAA's do to your training whilst fasted?

i could think of nothing worse going to train on an empty stomach and then spending hours after training again not eating

I'm not sure what you're talking about barnshaw.

This is what he suggests:

11.30-12 AM or 5-15 minutes pre-workout: 10 g BCAA
12-1 PM: Training
1 PM: Post-workout meal (largest meal of the day).
4 PM: Second meal.
9 PM: Last meal before the fast.

Fasting 9pm->11:30am
Then have BCAA's ... then work out.
Then eat immediately after the work out. Then several more meals over the following hours.

Not really what I'm doing, I'm doing what is in eat stop eat.

Training for my run at the moment I'm doing the following.

Sunday
6:30pm Sunday -> 6:30pm Monday, I'm fasting. (24 hour)
Monday
6:30pm, fast ends I have BCAA's, then do basic push resistance sets and core work. I then have my dinner. Normal eating resumes.
Tuesday
Normal eating - after work do 5km run. Eat dinner then fast till Wednesday dinner.
Wednesday.
Fasting until 6:30pm, then have BCAA's, do basic pull resistance sets and core work. I then have dinner. Normal eating resumes.
Thursday
Normal eating - after work do HIIT up hills.
Friday
Normal eating - after work do leg exercises, squats, wall squats, lunges, calve raises, etc.
Saturday
Normal eating - rest.
Sunday
Mountain bike riding in the forest.

- This is basically what I'm doing with the goal of doing this 10km on 5th of November. I'm taking my hurricane XS / Whey / Creatine in that week too. The resistance training I'm doing is mainly to maintain muscle, rather than gain mass.

thing is most people dont eat anything normally from 9pm to like 8am anyway? so this diet just means not eating for an extra couple of hours in the morning? its a strange old thing

That's on leangains Mike, but yeah 5 extra hours after 8am ... plus it's the act of working out fasted, then eating the majority of your cals immediately after the training - thats the difference.

I already 'intermittent fast' most days a week. I very rarely eat anything after dinner and I don't have a breakfast.

What a stupid 'plan'.

i think if you want to keep muscle and lose fat this isnt the right way about doing it. because paul is into horse racing and has a target weight to reach for the next derby etc then this is ideal
