you could just give it a nudge with some rockets.

also, how come rockets work in space if there is no air to push behind the spaceship?

Ok, for every force there is an opposite and equal force, so since its a vacuum there will only be the opposite force pushing you forward...if you throw a stone is space you would go backwards.
