I said to my mate I'd put some pics up in here as I thought you guys would appreciate this. We've done almost all of our trackdays together this year so it does get used properly
He's not really a picture taker so I've kinda just grabbed pictures from everywhere and anywhere that people have taken/I've taken but it gives you an idea of the work, time and money that has gone into the car. They may be a bit all over the place as I'm not going to try and figure out what order things happened in
He used to own an Astra GSi which had lots of tasty bits so here's a couple of pics of that too:
Now onto the VXR:
It came with a few bits already on it, AP brakes, LSD, Stage 3, Sound install, Blue SMD conversion, Carbon front splitter, LOTS of engine bling and more that I can't remember.
He was building an engine for the GSi, but it got put into this instead and most of the spec is there but not all of it, including turbo:
Z20 LEH rebuild 500-600 bhp conversion consisting of
arrow conrods
arp bolts
cuningham pistons
various components nitrated for strength including Z20 LET crank
studs for strengthening
billet cradle
hi flow port and polished head
custom made cams
gearbox components sent to fozen solid for strengthening
braced tubular manifold
garrett Gt35
Very strong engine ready for more power.
Standard wheels in shadow chrome
BBC CH's
It ran 297bhp & 335 ft/lb torque
Real Carbon Fibre Spoiler
Half cage:
Inlet & Enlarged Top Hot
As if AP's aren't good enough!? lol
Harnesses
Team Dynamic Pro Race 1.2's
Wrapped in Yokohoma AD08's
3 gauge conversion
Full cage made up and ready for powdercoating:
Recaro Bucket Seats & Cage Fitted:
Bigger intercooler & oil cooler
Random pics
Brands Hatch
Silverstone
Whilst I was out in the car we entered a fast right hander and a loud grinding noise which shook the car happened, luckily on the corner before the pit entrance, so rolled into the pits as had no drive
CV Joint had seperated from the shaft, didn't have anyway of attaching it (needed clips) so AA was called
Nurburgring
Good start, he'd just had the intercooler fitted here I think and the aircon belt rubbed on the rad hose thus it split unfortunately just before we boarded the ferry
Limped onto the ferry & off the other side and the repair (bodge) began, fiddliest fucking pipe ever
But we got it fixed with a mixture of a bigger rad hose over the top, exhaust putty, jubilee clips and cable ties. Once in Germany the hotel was around the corner from an Opel garage fortunately so he ordered 2 standard hoses just incase the same thing happened again, only 7 euros each! So he only missed 2 days of action.
Debut lap
This is what I've been helping doing, what a fucking nightmare this stuff is, and painful!!
How it looks now, it's getting there!
Latest job was I removed the KW V3's are Garry has ordered the KW Clubsport suspension which is not long released for the VXR's and he already had a buyer for the V3's.
And that's where we're at right now, the car will be undergoing a few changes over winter which is why there are so many bits apart at the moment, I'll try and get some pics along the way if people are interested

Is that the one the detailing guy had? Recognise the engine bay bits. Sure that's probably about £500 worth of Dynamat as well
Think I saw it on the M1 on Sunday.

Ah yeah, just spotted the engine bits.
VXRMarc's it looks like. I wonder what he thinks of it now
I love VXR's but for the price, i think an M3 would be alot more tempting for me

Yeah Jack with the Nova lives in Rainham, sound lad his Nova is a right laugh!
Yeah it used to be Marc Elsworths car, long way off from the car he sold to Garry now though. He started doing trackdays and wanted a medium between comfy car/track car but I finally persuaded him to rip all that shit out as with the cage in despite being stripped out I would say it weighed more than a standard VXR! With all of the sounds/Dynamat in he said he took it out & it proper rips now so glad he did take it all out.
Not sure Willay, I can't remember if it's Thorney or Courtenay that originally did all the work

No mate not yet needs a turbo & management but everything else is there ready. He's not skipped any corners on the engine build as he wants it to be as reliable as possible when it's done.
And yeah that's it, Garry still keeps it clean, he does detailing himself but not quite to Marc's extent!
Jambo the cuts are only just disappearing 3-4 weeks on, my hands were agony for days after

Not always. I've had both kinds of cars and can understand the argument on both sides!
Awesome VXR
