About a month ago had a knock from a fireman asking to check the fire alarm as its been reported that it is not working.
He orderd a spark to come and check it over and one came about an hour and said the out side lights keep tripping it.
Fireman sam came back today (hour ago) and they are not working again!
Last time he said if its not fixed they (fireman sam) said he can evict us untill its fixed!
Will i be able to claim off the landlord for a hotel? We also have 2 cats and will have to get these housed??

How did they know it was not working?
Might be different where you are, but I've never had firemen randomly knock on my door asking to see my smoke alarms...

Do you live in an HMO? Or is it just a rented house or flat?
Why the fuck did you let him in your house? You should have told him to go fuck himself in the first instance.

Oh right, I thought you lived in a house?
I'm sure an electrician can correct me on this, but I thought mains wired smoke alarms should be on different circuits if you're living in a flat.
What happens if you live in a tower block several stories high for example, they would go off all the time wouldn't they?

House of Multiple Occupancy.
If you live in a rented flat and have people above you, you should really have working detectors.
And yes, they should be wired seperately to the DB and have a seperate back up power source.

We have the bottom half of this house 2 flats above us and 1 on the top
Sounds like its all one circuit tbh hence someone else setting it off...
I think it used to be a nursing home or something as there is marks where there have been locks on all the doors, and also those panic button things where you have to use 2 fingers so proberbly just never been re jigged.
Sparky came out and "fixed it again" but i am sure it will trip at some point.....

same fucker kept going off so decided the best course of action was to take the battery out and now it no longer makes silly noises half way through a movie

Why did you break the glass if there wasn't a fire?

Doesn't the beep just mean that the battery is dying and needs replacing?

The key is for testing it.

I hit mine with a 24oz hammer as it kept going off.
Hope I dont have a fire anytime soon as I have no intention of fixing it,

Taking the battery out and replacing it with a new one also stops it from bleeping
