The last time i used one of these dongles they were fucking shite, have them improved a lot in recent years?
Does anyone have one that is good quality (reasonably fast, not ridiculously expensive)?
I am working away a lot lately and the wifi in the hotel never works, or when i am working sometimes it is very quiet and would be nice to browse the net on an unrestricted internet connection

No. I had a Vodafone dongle for when Sky were fucking us about with getting our phone line and broadband sorted, it was a piece of shit and kept dropping the connection etc. even if I stood in the middle of the garden or by a window in the house.
Had to set up a wireless hotspot on my iPhone in the end (I'm with 3) and that seriously kicked Vodafone's ass. I understand they have the best 3G network in the UK? May be worth getting a dongle with them if you're going to be in areas with good coverage.

My 3 one was alright, never had any problems and their network has vastly improved over the last year or so.

Sorry I meant 3 is meant to have the best 3G network. Dunno if that's still true or not, phone geeks will be able to confirm.
Re. hotspot, on my iPhone I went to Settings > Personal Hotspot > On.
I think you have to pay for this with other networks but it's free to do so on 3.

I will have to look into how much that costs, would be perfect for me if it's not too expensive (and available) on o2

Mobile Choice readers vote Vodafone UK as best network
Vodafone UK picked up Best Network at the Mobile Choice Consumer Awards 2011 in London, beating off major competition from O2, T-Mobile, Tesco Mobile and Three.
What makes this win significant is that the awards are 100% reader voted, so it’s the customers who rely on the network every day that have voted the UK as number one!
Overall, we're the readers’ favourite for network reliability, speed, coverage handset range and tariffs – over 60% of those who voted this year rate our network coverage as ‘excellent’ or ‘very good’.
Here’s just two of the comments from consumer customers who chose us as the UK’s Best Network:
“On my previous network, the signal was always dropping out all over the place. Vodafone’s signal seems to be rock solid, no matter where I am.” Steven, 38, Yeoville
“I’ve been with Vodafone for over 12 years now and the coverage from that network is by far the best. I've had work phones on other networks and Vodafone’s coverage is far superior around the country and abroad.” Kat, 31, London
After winning TechRadar’s Best Network in July, this is our second ‘reader voted' award and third 'Best Network' award overall this year!
