Just been having a flick through AT at Astra VXRs and vame across this one fairly cheap.
Link
Would it put you off that it was a cat C? Even though it looks like it has been fixed to a high standard.

If you're going to keep it a good few years then it wouldnt bother me at all. It's only a problem when you come to sell it really.

Doesn't bother me in the slightest, i had a previous cat c Corsa C 1.8 SRi and it was faultless.
Had a Vectra 2.2 DTi SRi that was previously cat d. Again, no dramas.
I have a mate who's a panel beater, spray painter for cf recovery so i take him to look for any signs of bad repairs though.

My first car was a cat D saxo vtr, it was a fair mess when I bought it. But I got if for £1500 (3months old) which was a bargain and I did alot of the work myself which kept repair costs down.
Plus, with buying it damaged and repairing it myself, I knew the repairs were to a good standard.
Not too sure I'd buy a cat D again, unless it was too good a deal to pass up. I'd rather buy a damaged one that needed repaired than an already repaired one where you had no idea how bad the damage was and how good a repair job it's been.

Yeah i would and have and will again; if the repairs have been done ok and the price is set accordingly then i dont see the problem. % wise you have less to loose in depreciation; and can get a newer higher spec car that the equivalent for the money. Also never had a problem selling them either; again as long as they are priced accordingly and you don't expect to get the same money as a none Cat one then you will be fine

My work mate makes a fortune buying and selling write offs and repairing them himself.
Can be hard to shift sometimes if you dont price them well below normal prices though.

There deffo is a market for them and as long as they are desireable cars then you'll have little problem shifting it on. At the end of the day as long as they are priced accordingly to reflect the previous damage it will draw interest. Also having evidence of the repair often helps, as in some cases it doesnt take much to write off a car, ie.g interior damage or a light front end can easily write off a perfectly good car.

I'd be happy with a cat d, usually just panel damage, never higher unless they have proof of damage, pictures of repairs and they're to a decent standard etc etc.

My Golf anni was also written off but went through as unrecorded. Needed the right wheels and front splitter, but paid 5k less than book value at the time including those bits.
Should have kept it tbh

That VXR isn't cheap enough for me to consider it though, you can pick them up for not much more than that

if your going to buy one do it yourself then you know works fine. i got an 09 focus with 1400 miles for a fraction below £3000. betime i finished i had about 5k in it. That was in 09 too when car was 3months old . If you do that you can run for a few year then sell it and get your money back
