Just got my new 59" screen delivered at my work place.
Still four hours of work until I can take it home though.
Doesn't look like it'll fit in the Corsa...

They've got it in Costco just now.
Any reason for picking that over the LCD?

I've been weaving back and forth between plasma and LCD as I do see advantages and shortcomings of both...
I actually ordered the UE55D8000, but Samsung is having stock shortage, so would take 3-4 weeks to get it and as the (few) ones I have seen have suffered severely from motion stutter I didn't want to risk waiting a month for a defective screen.
Ultimately decided that what I love most from my current 7-series plasma is the black level and smooth motion, so decided to go for the significantly cheaper and bit bigger plasma.
If it's suffering too much from buzzing it will get sent back though. Seems to be a bit of an issue on current Samsung plasmas.

This TV is fantastic so far. Much better than I dared hope.
Can't believe how incredible the shadow detail is.
Blu-ray obviously looks superb, but it does a great job of DVD materials as well.
And gaming is a whole different experience on this size screen.
A lot of value for the money!

My TV looks tiny in my living room now, anything else looks small even when it's not, and I've only got the 55".

Our old 42" sat in the corner looks tiny in comparison. Size definitely does matter!

so what size living rooms do you people have then to warranty a near enough 60" tv?
personally would have picked the LCD over the plasma, i was looking at the 40" samsung LCD's in costcos yesterday and aesthetically they are gorgeous, much better then the rest, unfortunately costco dont have them setup properly to determine which sets have a better image

Completely agree. The Samsung 7 and 8-series LCD's look much better, design wise, than most other brands.
Do like Sony and LG's frameless designs though, for a wallmounted display.
As said, LCD vs. plasma was a hard decision and you do get a fantastic screen with the high end LCD's, but neither is without flaws. Could easily live with an LCD screen though.
As for the living room, I sit 4 - 5 metres from the screen, while watching films and 2 metres while playing games.
5 metres is sufficient for a 92" screen, but didn't want to go the projector route.

LG's 2012 LCD's are going to look great as well though:

My living room is 6 by 3.7.
Lack of bezel and because mine is so tight to the wall genuinely makes it look a lot smaller than it is.
I'd have bought the 55" even if it was a smaller room though tbh.

LG's always do, my LG is a good 3/4 years old and still looks far better than most things out there, Glass panel on the font makes it look the part

That LG looks good but current gen aren't a patch on Samsung, I nearly got an LG at the time but stock and the almost non existent bezel on my Samsung made the decision.

Even if they did that doesn't mean that you get 'basically and LG tv'.

Love my Samsung TV, could have gone for the LED backlit version but CCFL version produced a much better picture so went with that instead.

Not all plasmas have an edge over LCDs in terms of black level.
In fact, the only plasmas to match the blacks of the UK Samsung LCD 40C580 with S-PVA panel(0.02cd/m2) is the Panny 42G20.
As far as I'm aware we have yet to see any LG and Samsung Plasmas break the 0.04 cd/m2 barrier, happy to be prooven wrong.

I thought the 40C580's contrast ratio is only 6000:1? If that is the case then there are plenty of plasma panel that beat that

Contrast ratio does not equal black level.
In fact, contrast ratio, as reported by the manufacturer, tells next to nothing at all about a TV's performance.
