Need a new Tv to replace our cheapo 32" LCD. Will use it for Sky, Xbox, DVD. Will be wall-mounting.

Budget is £400 or less. Any recommendations - ideally on the high Street so I can buy today. No idea whether to go plasma or LCD to be honest.

dont go for plasma as with programs like ITVHD stuff, the channel name in the top corner burns into the screen and you can see it for a while after its turned off too.

Mines a plasma and dosent burn

Has some anti burn shit on it where the picture moves about ever min or so

Plasma's are heavy and give off a lot of heat. Don't tend to move them around so much though so it's not that much of an issue.

LCD or LED, plasma's have a shorter life span, weight a tonne and use a hell of alot more energy.

Richer Sounds will price match anyone online. Also very knowlegable. If you phone them up they will recommend you something decent for your budget.

Sound isn't as good as the old LCD one but that is because the LED are so thin now.

Richer sounds are a good set-up, got my samsung lcd from there earlier this year can't fault them.

I've heard there's a section on here for questions like this.

People still don't seem to realise that they aren't buying an LED TV either, you are buying an LCD with an LED backlight.

what are you using it mainly for? watching normal TV? playing games? Plasma does have its benefits so its wrong to say not to buy one until you know what its being used for

i have 3 plasma's
50"
42"
32"

have had no issues with screen burn, over heating or them falling off the wall.
pictures are al perfect too, the 42" is about 4 years old now too

as john mentions most are not even true LED tv's it is just backlit, even then some are not even full LED backlit and most are just edge lit so its quite misleading.

although a decent LCD tv will still give just a good an image really.

No such thing as a 'true LED' TV's (unless you're talking LED display panels, but that's completely different). They are all LED backlit LCD's. As you say, there are differences in the LED array though - edge-lit and 'full arrays' (even then there are differences in uniformity). You also get local-dimming and non-local-dimming arrays.
