Have a TV for sale on a local website.

Price is set at 230 £ (roughly calculated)

Just got a text asking if I'll accept 200 £ and he will collect immediately.

I agree to the price, but say I'm not home till later, so will text him the address then.

He agrees.

Did notice his spelling and grammar was off, but not too horrible.

Moments later I receive a text, half Danish, half English, terrible spelling in both languages.
Basically it says: "I will bring a friend. Please say, that the agreed price is 220 £ and then discreetly give me back 20 £"

WTF???

I reply: "No thanks, sounds dodgy. I'm out!"

Scam, right? Either way, am not letting someone like that in to my home! Not for the sake of 200 £.

Got a text back.

Says he's from France and currently studies in Denmark. He has a friend who is looking for a TV and he insures me, that he is by no means dodgy.

Told him I think it's dodgy to scam your friends out of 20 £, especially under the pretence of helping them!

Why the fuck would you ask a foreign friend, who hardly speaks the language, to find you a used TV?

Still seems dodgy to me...

How is it dodgy?
Tell them collect, take the cash, give the TV. Job done?!

Tell him to collect, tell him it's £220, then do the deal just say "bye" without passing on the £20

Do you have equivalent cash notes that they could give you 4 fake £50's and a real £20, you'll pay attention to the £20 because that what you have to hand back and because that's real you don't check the others?

But i doubt he will be guven any £50 notes, or £20 notes for that matter.

He's in Denmark and has used £'s to show what the tv is worth as you probably dont know what a Krone is worth?

Hence John saying "equivalent to" I would think.

In my calculation I've done a 1:10 conversion (as in the TV is sat at 2.300 DKK) though the real exchange rate is closer to 1:8.5...

Also, we do have a 500 note, but also some of the safest notes in the world, so fakes are very rarely an issue.

This might just be me being paranoid, but I'm very careful with who I let in to my home... Can't tell why exactly.

Sounds like he's just trying to make money off finding the sale.

Take the £220 and delete his number.
