As a matter of discussion, what are the pros and cons of each that anyone can think of. Of course the E36 is newer, is it quicker? The E30 is cooler, hands down for me!

E36 325 is the better engine, the 328 has a wank inlet manifold on. Forget the engine codes now
E30 is cooler, turn alot more heads, pay good money for a good one. Rust is its biggest killer.
I've had 2 e30 coupes 323 and 318is and a more door e36 320
I'd have another tomorrow with a 325 non vanos nugget slotted in, more power than a stock e30 m3 but doesn't carry the price tag

Nothing wrong with the 328 Engine, The 325 inlet can be easily transfered, although most of the time you get a torque decrease. Unless Mapped/Cammed.
E30's are ultra cool imo, but i wouldnt say a E30 Touring was 'cooler' than an E36 Coupe.
Not that im Biased at all!

Yes. But it's simple really, it's newer, more refined, plenty to chose from, no Internet tax, plenty of upgrades availible. Cheap to run.
E30 is cool, don't get me wrong. But e36 is better choice IMO

Hi.
I love E30 tourings but the 328i engine is very good, especially with the 325i manifold on it, I'd find it hard to decide.
The thing is, they're both an old car now, so both will have issues with bushes, rot, electrical niggles etc, so it's probably just as 'bad' either way.
E36s are probably cheaper too...

If you get a E36 facelift it's likely to be the best part of a decade younger than the E30 though. Do whilst Robin is correct they are both old and need tlc it's a safer bet with E36 IMO!

A good 328i Coupe can be picked up for very little money these days. They will be better spec'd also.
E36's can be made to look nice for very little money too.

If you can get ur hands on an inlet then yeah, out the box no mods the 325 is the better engine though imo
