Has my timing sliped i pulled of a set of lights then car lost power n it sounds like a misfire and i can smell fuel

How did you tension the belt? did you turn it by hand until the slack was at the tensioner or did you just tension it while it was on its timing marks?

Don't run it, that will probably cause further damage.

I tensiond as discribed in the haynes turn engine by hand two turns to get the slack out then tighten again if the adjuster moves there was no slack at all i looked to day and it seems like the flat outer face of the belt has got hot or some thing looked a bit melty
