Does anyone use their I phone to buy stuff online. I don't have regular access to a normal computer but I want to buy some stuff off of amazon. Wife says my phone may not be an overly safe way of doing it.

your phone wont present a security risk in itself, your wifi net work and the site is where the vulnerabilities lie

The web browser on your phone is no more insecure than using a PC. The only thing you need to be wary of realistically is the website you're buying from.

SSL is a communication protocol which secures your data back and forth with encryption - and an SSL connection to a website can be identified by HTTPS:// before a webpage URL. HTTP:// (without the S) is used for sites such as corsasport which don't have a requirement for SSL encryption. Online banks, amazon, etc will tend to use SSL and hence will use the https:// prefix.

Only risk I can think of when using a phone, is if you save your username/password or credit card details into a website - then you lose the phone.

I buy stuff all the time on mine, access my bank etc

Doesn't answer your question as to whether it's safe as I've never really thought about it but been doing it for years and not had a problem so far

I always check my online banking on mine, and it always does the same as PC where the website bar goes green to say its secure.
