Lego isn't lego anymore. The whole fun of it used to be building stuff using a limited range of blocks in a clever way to achieve what you want. Now it's full of custom made bits to fit. Might aswell buy a model

What steve said, there was nothing better than buying random lego and building something completely random without instructions. I even had to work out what and how a diff works

You can still buy sets of just random blocks. They should call it "the purist kit".

i beg to differ - my son has alot of lego and its not that different to be honest - there are certainly more unusual parts but there aren't any parts i have seen so far that is specific to one model
