Getting my girlfriend a TV for Xmas to replace her shitty 20" old school TV. Want to get her a nice 42" decent make Plasma. It's just going to be used for TV really and needs to have freeview built in. These are the best looking deals I've seen so far. Decent makes & decent specs aswell. I know they're only HD ready but I'm thinking if I'm not using it for HD is there any point spending the extra on a HD one?

Website is down at the minute. Does it need to be from Very? Richer sounds will beat any prices but don't offer interest free credit, if thats what you're using Very for?
The 3D one will probably be a cheaper lower spec than the other two but with some useless 3D thrown in too

Its working for me now mate. And no it doesn't have to be from there that was just the cheapest place is found so far. £350 is what I'd like to spend really as a wall mount will be about £50 too. Just needs to be a decent brand and 42"
I will have a look on Richer Sounds :-)

That Samsung 3D TV is their deal of the week

£320 instead if £350 for the LG one I posted
http://www.richersounds.com/product/plasma-tv/lg/42pt353k/lg-42pt353
I like this website. Think the Samsung looks significantly better than the LG though. Looks worth paying the extra £50 for a bit better spec & headphone socket as my TV doesn't have it and it's annoying

That's what I'm thinking Brett. Paid £1100 for a 42" Plasma LG 4 years ago, now they're a third of that!

Samsung 43" HD Ready for £320, this is the best one I've seen yet for spec vs price

I would go for an LCD without 3D, probably get a decent spec (if not completely upto date) samsung for that kind of money.

Not bothered about 3D don't have anything that shows it so pointless!
Tom, why would you go for LCD over Plasma?
http://www.richersounds.com/product/lcd-tv/samsung/le40d503/sams-le40d503
That TV looks decent but it says HD Ready & 1080p, I thought it could only be one or the other?

I bought the middle of your links for £329.99 from Comet. Looks great and works fine on HD Sky, Xbox 360, HD upscale DVD etc
Edit - found this in my emails - 42" LG for £250:

Thanks Tim
LCD looks alot lighter so will e good for wall mounting, I quite like the Samsung LCD I just posted as the spec is good plus if it is full HD it's a bargain.

I like the look of this http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/samsung-ue32d5520-32-full-hd-led-tv-10078507-pdt.html
I have just bought a new 37". Might be worth looking for one with a Freeview HD tuner that is being released soon!

I wanted a 42" ideally though. Her bedroom doesn't actually need a 42" but I was semi thinking ahead and when we move out I don't want a dinky little 32" rather a 42"

Definitely get 42/3" rather than 32". Just upgraded. Sat 8ft from the TV and the difference is unreal.

That one also says 1080p & HD Ready? I thought HD Ready was basically an advertising thing for TV's that aren't actually HD but people think they are?

That just highlights your 'tardness to not post in the correct sub-forum

HD ready = 720p and 1080i,
Full HD = 1080p
1080p has a higher resolution than anything else, however 720p qualifies as HD and is a huge step up from normal (SD) resolution.
TV broadcasts are limited to 1080i on most if not all channels anyway.

That's the exact one I've got (bought from RS too) It's quality picture, loads of inputs (4 x scart, USB, HDMI) etc but the speakers probably let it down a bit.
Ignore the HD ready thing, it's full HD.
Personal preference (prefering LCD over Plasma), cheaper on electrity and not going to get burnt patches, should last longer etc.

To me it highlights you 'tardness that you feel the need to highlight to people that they've posted in the wrong forum. I know there is a Geek Day and I chose not to put this in there as not everybody reads it as not everybody is into the kind of things posted in there. But everyone has a TV, thus posting in here gets me more opinions on what's the best TV to buy, as that's what I'm after?
If you really do get bothered by what section people post in on a forum then I suggest you get out a bit more as you really are making it out to be a big deal and it's not.
