Last night I watched the Top Gear episode where they went to Romania to find the world's best driving road (i.e. this and this) and that got me wondering what the best driving road in Britain would be.
I've personally enjoyed this stretch of the A399 in Devon, but after a bit it just straightens out going quite steeply uphill (plus I got stuck behind a tractor) so the end part was boring. I'm sure there will be even better roads out there so thought I'd ask the internet for any other suggestions.
Any ideas?

There are loads, most of Scotland, a lot of Wales, did the Evo triangle the other month and I wasn't convinced it was the best there is. In fact the rest of the A5 all the way to the coast was more scenic.

Heard other people say the Evo triangle isn't all that.

A701 from Moffat towards Peebles is probably the best I've driven although I'm sure there are probably better ones in Scotland.
Done the Black Mountain Pass and it was alright but too short really

evo triangle is good if your in the area, probably not worth a specific trip.
Some great roads in the NW, south Lancaster over the tops to Clitheroe is my current favorite

St.Fillans through Glen Coe up to Fort William and from there either up to Mallaig or passed Ben Nevis through Loch Ness up towards Inverness. Just amazing.

A708 which goes out of Moffat to Glentress near Peebles is good too. Took off in my Audi on that road

Pretty much every road up near me going passed knockhill and head north.
Long straight roads and a good mix of corners

My favourite local road is A592 Windermere to Penrith over Kirkstone Pass. The Mini is made for that road. It's got everything. Up and over a massive Lakeland pass, a few good length straights and a road that snakes up and down and around tight corners and fast flowing corners. It's fantastic.
Have a look at the street view at various points along it to see what I mean.

A9? one of the deadliest roads in the UK, 2 more people killed 2 weeks ago.

Im out most weekends the road from Fort William > Inverness is out of this world, covered 68 miles in an hour, the roads there are really wide, very twisty and absolutly barron, the locals move over for you when you start to gain on them, its comfy to overtake on most of them anyway. I was there for 3 days and covered 1200 miles

When was you up that way Matt? I agree though, I mentioned that road above. It's amazing on a nice day. I can't wait to go back up that way. I reccomend the raod from Fort William to Mallaig (through Glenfinnan) if you're up that way again. Breathtaking views, go see my FB album from there a few months ago.

these 2 are awsome roads too but they arent really overtake friendly and are just too busy in the day. I did these 2 and the cat and fiddle one night though, I set out from mine at 11pm and got in around half 6am great in the dead of night, full beams on so you can see, and alos you can see oncomming traffic easier too because of their headlights
