Is anyone clued up on the new rules coming in January? Planning on removing my airbag wheel soon for an aftermarket one with a boss, do I have to have the airbag in the car as it came out of the factory with one? My boss had a quick look through all the new rules and it says something about all the srs and the warning lights... Anyone gone into details with them all? Cheers

This is what he was getting at, he seems to think that because it came out of the factory with one it will need one to meet the new MOT criteria.. Rather frustrating talking to him about it

Never understood wanting to take an airbag out of your car for a big bit of metal to bounce your head off of?

My dad says he's not 100% sure they'll bring it in but he reckons they will.

Go on Vosa site and see if you can find any info.

If they did bring it in then you would have to fit the factory steering wheel back on. :/

if the light isnt on i would say you will get through,

due to not all corsa's had airbags so you could simply say it didnt have one, chances are they wont look in to it

All my motors will be going to by friendly/slightly more expensive MOT tester so VOSA can fuck.

I also asked him about the new rules yesterday and he only mentioned somehting to do with tow bars so looks like half the testers wont be clued up on it all anywa

NEW MOT RULES Effective 1/1/12 as advisories, in force as fails from April 2012, final date tbc.
Below is a summary of the key changes expected in the new MOT test for Classes IV, V and VII. This is not a complete list, but a summary of the key changes we think customers will want to know about.

Certain DASH WARNING LIGHTS, in addition to previously tested ABS lights will fail if they indicate a malfunction, eg Electronic Parking Brake (EPB), Electronic Stability Control (ESC/ESP), Brake fluid warning light, Electronic Braking System (Class V only), SRS/airbag faults

CATALYTIC CONVERTERS missing where one is fitted as standard will fail.

Fuel pipes or hoses excessively chafed or damaged will fail

CV/Drive shaft boots at BOTH ends of the drive shaft will now fail if they are damaged, split or insecure sufficient to allow the ingress of dirt etc

Inappropriate repairs or modifications to brakes/suspension/steering will fail
Excessively worn drive shaft support bearings, eg prop centre bearings will fail
Engine mountings missing or seriously deteriorated resulting in excessive movement will fail

Drivers seat not adjustable forwards and backwards and locking in the chosen position will fail

In addition to drivers and front passenger doors opening from inside and outside the vehicle, all other passenger doors must be able to open from the outside.

For most class IV and VII TWO mirrors are required, one of which must be the offside exterior mirror.

Batteries will fail if insecure or leaking.

Electrical wiring will fail if it is insecure, damaged or deteriorated enough to create a short circuit or chafed showing bare wires.

Trailer sockets Euro 13 PIN plugs will be tested.

Steering
The steering lock will be tested and will fail if not working as intended. Steering and suspension ball joint dust covers will fail if they are missing, insecure, loose or damaged sufficient to allow the ingress of dirt etc. Steering lock stops will fail if they are incorrectly adjusted, missing, loose or damaged. Significant steering box oil leaks will fail. Power steering fluid level below the minimum mark will fail. Power steering pipes and hoses will fail if there are excessively damaged, corroded or fouling another part of the vehicle.

Drivers seat being adjustable will affect some folk. Bit of a gay rule really.
