my mums laptop has stopped charging, was a bit dodgy for a while she said where it would take a while after plugging in before it started charging but it won't do it at all now. laptop is three years old, its a compaq. is there any point in me taking to a computer shop or likely to cost loads to fix?

Charger is dead or more likely the DC jack on the laptop motherboard has become unsoldered.
