I was just reading something a few minutes ago on Yahoo! News about a top civil servant's warnings that the UK may not be the UK in the future.

So I wondered what you lot thought about this? If each country in the UK was its own separate entity, what sort of impact do you think this would have on what would be on the other former countries of the UK?

Go.

Scotland would be fine with the income generated from oil reserves and offshore shipping. England has the Quaternary sector (banks, Finance etc), what does Wales or N.I.? Have to support themselves?

SNP are holding a referendum next year are they not on whether to have a referendum on future on independence

Personally, I would prefer if we split into our 4 component parts but Wales and NI are the problem... Scotland can sustain itself and NI would be fine if it were to become part of ROI, which is clearly unlikely to happen. Wales, however, has NEVER been an independent country and has nothign with which it could sustain itself with so the best possible situation would be a united Ireland, an independent Scotland and then England & Wales (along with the islands) as the UK

As would an 'english' accent tbf.

I don't think this will happen, for reasons listed above.

Seeing as the dialects can be very hard to tell apart, "a British accent" is most accurate description for a foreigner.

Or would you prefer me to say "he spoke like some one from either Wales, England, Scotland or Ireland."?

Kendal Mint cake not from Kendal, which is in the Lake District, which is not in Wales/Ireland?

Wales and Scotland would be almost 3rd world without the subsidies they get from the English tax payer. Plus the fact they despise us leads me to believe a split would be a good idea

Can't tell the difference though.

Especially between Welsh and English dialect.
Scottish and Irish I, mostly, find distinguishable.
