decided to try and into dj'ing properly. ive got hundreds of hours of house and trance music and usually end up playing at parties before we go out.
im only using virtual dj 7 and a usb soundcard so i can cue properly but recently been using the ipad as a controller as well which has made things quite a bit easier and let me play with some effects etc a bit more.
ive just ordered a hercules rmx controller, and while not the best headphones for dj'ing ive got my beats which do the job well for me. at home im just using a 5.1 system set to stereo which more than fills the room (and in fact the building as well :lol with clear soudn and good bass.
so, whos got some tips for me? what to buy, what to do etc

Best advice is to use a "clean" laptop. I.e. only have your DJing software and music on there. Nothing else. Dont go on the internet etc etc. If thats not possible, then atleast end almost all your process that are running. Disable wireless, antivirus any things like that.
Other than that just play with the software or have a looks on youtube at how to do things.
Personally i prefer to use Traktor Pro 2. I just find it a better package than VDJ and its known to use less resources, but everyone preferences are different.
I use and old Advent laptop and a Denon DN-MC6000 controller

I've got all my music on a hdd and nothing running on the laptop. It still shat it's self and froze up mid set tonight leaving me to do a shit half arsed attempt on my iPad with djay. Everyone was buzzing about it too when we got out into town people who were at mine kept comin up to me in walkabout etc telling me I was better than the guy playing I'm far from good but it's always nice to get compliments

I've used traktor and vdj and really do prefer vdj. However if traktor is easier on the processor I'll give it a try. I'm happy to adapt to new software if it will work better

I just do it as a hobby because I love my dirty dutch music - so I like to make my own mixes, I just use a basic Numark Mixtrack hooked upto my PC and I use traktor 2 software, which is great. Had a go of virtual Dj didnt rate the effects that great on it and found the interface a bit unprofessional? Maybe I had an old version.
I have an Ipad 2, how do you use that as a controller then?

I need to start using my macbook pro for music, as that's what I bought it for. Even have an external soundcard and in ear monitors to do it.
Instead it's full of films and itunes music, lol.
Think I need to empty it and start writing/programming again.

I used to DJ using VDJ and Hercules RMX at my local places before i got a job doing 60hrs a week. Am selling a RMX too
I got also got lots of good comments, and its surprising how quickly the comments get about.
Going to clubs and bars now irritates the hell out of me because 9 times out of 10 the 'DJ' Can't Mix etc.
If i found myself out of work, i would get a loan out and get a proffeassional set up and do it for a living.
Such a good Buzz pleasing the crowd by dropping tunes that everybody loves.
Practice makes perfect, from Timing and song choice.
Enjoy!

You can create diferent effects on VDJ or download them. What type of file are the songs that are not loading/playing correctly?

Also i found that the cross fader wasn't very good on the RMX, it affects the volume of the tracks and quality imo, in the settings if you disable the crossfader and just use the left and right faders beside the master vol, it is much easier and better imo of course.

Has anyone here tried the djay app on iphone/ipad?
Why do the eq knobs for high mid low not completely cancel the sound out? Its a bit poop to try and swap basslines etc when you cant completely cancel the sound out effectively.
