I know you see these threads everyday but your guys advice is better than anybodys.

Basically got about £1600 to get myself a new motor. Not too fussed about speed, just want something that looks nice and is more respectable than my clapped out n reg sport.

Ideally dont want anything more than 10 years old.

im 21 with 3 yncb so insurance needs to be taken into account.

Cars iv been looking at:

vectra c sri diesel. but for this budget, it'd be hard to pick up the prefered 1.9 model

c2 gt. anyone had one? not sure on citroen reliability.

clio 172. the obvious choice but only high milers for my budget. also petrol and insurance might rape me. also again, french. reliable?

All very different cars i know. just cant decide if i want a sensible option or a hot hatch.

any views, guidance, or even for sale ad links appreciated

Don't like the C2s myself, they don't seem well built and are a bit cheap and plasticy inside

My girlfriend's got a C2, only a 1.1 desire admittedly, but she's had it just over 2 years and it's a good little car tbh, I was pretty dubious, but have actually grown to kind of like it Reliability wise she's never had an issue - which has kind of made me change my views on French reliability to an extent!

A Mates C2 vts was same. Never took a spanner to it and it was owned by a previous friend before that. He has now bought a 182 and has had nothing but problems. So i think its hard to generalise 'french' reliability.

Do they C2 GT's not have that auto gearbox??

If they do then don't bother. You need to select the gear about 5 secs before you actually want it to change. Proper shit.

Clio isn't that much more respectable than a Corsa is it?

You'd get something bigger for the money, that said it won't be particularly special and also not good on the juice like a 1.9 CDTi Vec would be.

Clips better than any car in this thread, however they aren't cheap to run. However good on fuel.

Astra MK4 Coupe 1.8

Very good cars, and look nice too (imo)

Blue one was a turbo and don't think 1.8s came in that colour but thought I'd post a pic anyway
