Right so im planning a roadtrip to portugal from liverpool in september

Thinking of this to get us there safely and in proper asian style

Anybody ever done a road trip of this scale?

We are thinking dover to Amsterdam (pick up some cakes and a prostitute etc) then travel down through belgium, france, spain and portugal.

Any advice would be sound!

Me and a few mates were talking about doing something like this the other day. Probably never get round to it though.

It's an open continent with no border crossings/customs. It's only getting stopped by the rozzers you have to worry about. The only real border frontier in western europe is England and ferry/train crossings.

We did (7 people in 4 cars) a roadtrip from Newcastle to Germany a couple of years ago.

Newcastle to Hull
Ferry to Belgium
Belgium to Holland, spent the evening/night in Rotterdam.
Then Holland to Germany and the Nurburgring, camped there for a few nights, then drove from Germany back to Belgium and back to Hull on the Ferry.

Not many tips really. Make sure you have the kit needed for driving in Europe (hi vis, triange etc). Check oil, tyres before you go. Have fun.

Sailing from Hull would take a bit longer but cut out driving south to sail north.

You can still get checked at the borders; although the only tricky borders i've crossed have been Andorra, had a reasonable gander around the car, and Morocco Tangiers who did a near enough full on search (plus it was an arse to get through customs).

Munchie - Sounds like a decent trip. Obviously service the car before you go, pack the usual required emergency kit (as Neil mentioned, water etc) and a few tools (the usual + gaffer tape is always useful).
Might also be worth thinking about road-side cover, haven't done it in the past but that's been on the basis that the car is a shit-heap and worse case it gets dumped a we fly back (in which case, pack light if that's your plan).
