Its a rover 25, the heater is just blowing cold air out...i checked the hose above the rad and its hot and the rad itself feels warm.....

Have you done the usuals?
Check coolant level first thing in the morning to ensure its at correct levels
If so, take header tank cap off, run engine until it gets hot and keep the blowers on full on hot for 10/15 mins and see if they start getting hot.

Sounds like low coolant, the first thing you loose is the heaters

also get a lot of white smoke out of the exhaust might be cse its very cold these days but coolent has been fine but ill do everything youve said soon leave it running with the cap off...?

Start by checking the bottom of the oil cap

Oil cap is fine, coolant is fine, i did the fan at high with the cap of for 15 minutes and nothing its still cold....theres a T junction sorta of fine under the bonnet with 3 pipes that look like they do something and there all cold if that helps?

That's the thermostat housing. If its stuck open, coolant flows round the radiator constantly, it then passes the fan temp switch cooling it down. It should be closed whilst the engine gets to temperature. With it bieng a rover I'd be concerned with the white smoke :/

Take it out of the housing. It should be closed when its cold. If its open it has failed.
If its closed and working, start looking elsewhere

if not the thermostat as mentioned it could be an air lock.
drain the coolant, and put fresh in for piece of mind... run til warm with cap off as said but put your blowers on warm full power for a bit... an air lock will stop the heaters working.

Hold up hope that wasn't aimed at me, I never mentioned the word head gasket, I just stated that checking the bottom of the oil cap is an easy way to make sure there are no issues there, it's free and easy check to do yourself, taking thermostat out etc whilst not particularly difficult still takes a damn site more time than checking the bottom of the oil cap

Unclip the hoses onto the housing, there should be 3 or 4 bolts holding it on. If the bolt heads look like stars, don't worry. Normal sockets will still fit. Removing the housing can damage the gasket so be carefull. If you do replace it ( they are cheap anyqay) make sure you've removed any remaining gasket before fitting the new one. If you've not got a haynes manual, go and pick one up
