Why the hell is it so expensive
We need carpets changing in most rooms of our house, got someone from Kidderminster Carpets to measure our living room and provide a quote. Now bear in mind we don't have a massive living room, and we need underlay with the carpet we chose, the quote came to £460 Got them to measure and quote the stairs/landing areas, similar price there too.
The carpet we chose was £12.99 per sq. mtr. I think, that seems to be the going rate for a mid-range carpet (cheaper ones weren't as hard wearing IMO).

Get underlay from ebay, much cheaper.
It is fairly expensive though, it cost me about 500 odd for a 3.7x6 room.

They offer free underlay but it's that cheap shit that disintegrates into dust after a while, the better one works out to be about £3/sq. mtr. from them.
Good shout John I'll have a look on there for the underlay.

got ours from carpetright with their offer on.
think it was 350 for living room and stairs (13) and 200 for 2 bedrooms.
silly money, they must make massive profits judging by their ''60-70% off offers'' they always have one.

I made use of the mega discount day carpetright do on the last day of the madness week. It gets mega cheap for 1 day only.
I paid 950 for a 3 big double bedroom house, 5 x 5 living room, plus landing and stairs, along with lino in the bathrooms (3 of). That included fitting but not underlay.

Mixed reviews on Carpetright
I've seen a few websites that sell the decent underlay quite cheaply so that's sorted, existing grippers are fine so just need to find a good price for carpet and get someone local to fit it (and probably get the carpet through him too if he gets better pricing than we can).

carpet right are shit tbf. they told us any stains in our carpet would come out no problem.
even after hiring a rug doctor, some stains are there to stay.

Tradepriced.co.uk is best place for underlay, cloud9 9mm comes highly recommended.
Cheap carpet £5 p/sqm will feel like a £15 p/sqm carped with good underlay

Yeah definetly, its the underlay that gives you the feel and cushioning.
Good quality underlay makes all the difference.

Our current carpet doesn't feel much different to walking on bare floorboards
Current underlay is also thin/crap.

Underlay makes a bit of difference but the really cheap carpets looked and felt terrible.
Unless you get some sort of amazing deal you unfortunately have to spend a bit more.

Oh don't get me wrong I don't mind spending the money, but at the same time I don't want to be ripped off when I could get a better deal elsewhere or by buying the items from separate places etc.

Other thing about carpets is I can't tell from a tiny square. I was worried I hadnt got good enough quality but when it's down it's far better than I expected.

What style of carpet have you one for the twist pile and berbers are the best wearing so should last but always go for the best underlay you can afford as it what's under the carpet that makes it. Was that£460 all in fitted aswell. If your getting underlay online I would recommend a brand called cloud 10 really good stuff this never buy the gripper from the shop for example carpet right pay £25 a box of gripper and sell it for £220 a box. Also thy charge a fee for hsl at £40 an also charge for delivery to your house £15 evn though thy use sub contractors that go to store and prep there days work then bring it to you to fit so say to them I wll collect it etc and save lots

Spent all day traipsing round carpet shops/warehouses by us and in Kidderminster today, and so decided in the end to buy the carpet we originally looked at from Kidderminster Carpets as it was the nicest we saw for the money.
Going to buy some Cloud 9 underlay and get a local guy to fit it all for us. Got about £20 knocked off the carpet price as we aren't using their underlay/fitting etc. (although the delivery cost is £20 ), I calculated we are going to save about £50 in total doing it all this way which is nice.

Nope, I spent a whole day being dragged around loads of different carpet shops only to be told we're having the original chosen carpet because none of the others I suggested that were cheaper/of similar quality would look good in our living room...
