So he caught a guy using his computer which was wide open.
Nothing there CSBI can't do in as many minutes.

Far from wide open. He only was able to get into it because he knew the passwords to get into it.

I found it amusing because it happened over a 2 year period.

One of our clients had a laptop stolen, we've got remote software on all the PC's.
Was online the same day on facebook so we watched them on that for a few days.
Gave all the details to the police who came out, wasted our time and said they wouldn't be able to do anything anyway.

They dont have a clue about computers/networks and how ip's work, which is fair enough, they are police not network admins. They weren't interested at all though, they wanted 1 ip address to write down, they didn't get how we could access remotely but not track. They wanted a screenshot printed out, a folder full of digital information was no good to them.
It was weeks later by the time they turned up and they just said this is a waste of time but we'll do it anyway.
It would be really easy for anyone with half a clue to track the Person down half an hour after they had done it. Turning up weeks later to fill a form in just doesn't work in today's digital world.
