gonna end up buying a car for the first time ever on finance. I'm looking at under 6k, obviously i guess that depends on what the monthly payments are going to be so maybe could go higher.

what exactly are good modern diesel cars. needs to be big enough, not an estate though, for towing my corsa around and carrying stuff when i need to.

only things I've looked at are...

vectra cdti sri 150 with xp kit. thats kinda the car i want.
saab 9-3 tid sport, or vector i think they're called.

I've no idea what i really want. i do not want a passat though. that much i do know.

it doesn't have to be new. 2005 onwards would be nice, but I'm not hugely bothered by the age of the car. id pay 3k for a decent older car, its not about price or age, more about being the right vehicle.

Mondeo tdci 130, love mine, now on 175k never had any hassle, (40k my doing)
50-60mpg,
And 40mpg when towing the corsa about on it's trailer.
Comfy,
Oh and it cost me 1200quid! So for your money you could get a low mileage minter and still spend less.

I've bee looking just then at the st tdci mondeo's. lad at my work had one. seemed a very good car.

i think i should edit my search idea to include something not only to do work and back and towing, but also to be a car i like as in half decent looking car with a decent spec. as I'm going to have it for several years like i do most cars.

We sold our astra Vxr for the mondeo to reduce running costs which it did considerable, I don't miss the Vxr one bit. I love the St, very comfy car, looks the part, goes quite well and cheap as fook to run.

Much nicer inside than the vectras as well.

that would have been a good one if it hadn't been an auto. i wouldn't be lowing it in any way. tow bar, remap/box whatever is needed and thats it.

its the paying for a 15k+ car that i couldn't really justify. even interest free, i can't afford much more than say 200 a month max.

Suppose...wasnt sure what monthly payments would equate to.

What about something like a A4 Sline Avant 2L tdi. Think I prefer them over bmw. Estates handy as fuck over a saloon!!

Think the 320d's like the get through turbos, 330d would be the one to go for but all the ones I saw were high miles or old oh and the insurance was more than the vxr lol.
