Some Honda engines run backwards..
IF one of these was fitted to a regular gear box would this give 5 reverse gears? Or is it not that simple

there are definatly engines which spin anti clockwise..
my question is would they work with a conventional gearbox and give 5 or six reverse gears

It would just destroy the gearboxes. You wouldn't get 5 reverse and 1 forward gear lol.

The gears are shaped like chevrons like the Citroen logo >>>>>> if you get what i mean. It wont do them a lot of good to be spun backwards.

Any engine can run backwards.
If an engine deisgned to run backwards had a normal box it would have 5 gears that would move the car backwards, not 5 reverse gears as such because there's no synchro on reverse.
I don't know anything about Hondas though

I wouldn't say they run backwards, some of them run counter-clockwise compared to a conventional engine.

That's pretty much one of the definitions of backwards, Opposite to the conventional

Don't see why it would die, the gears are helical but I can't remember if they can only run one way

Sorry john but you are being a retard, for a car to have 5 reverse gears and 1 forward gear all you need to do is turn the controls around so they face out the back window I.e steering wheel, pedals etc. 5 actual straight cut 'reverse gears' in a gearbox would be fine as long as they were geared properly, you wouldn't have 5 all at the same ratio so it probably wouldn't ruin it. But it's a daft idea tbh, I'll have some of what you're smoking lol
