Probably been done to death but is there something out of the box which will run on PHP/MySQL hosting and integrate with Paypal?

Just looking for something easy to lash together, doesn't need to be particularly flash just a list of products, a basket and somewhere to pay.

Yeah looked at that, didn't love the splash-screen type front page but it would probably do the job.

I am setting up two websites with this (one of them being for myself).

You can chop and change things around quite easily through the admin section to be honest, doesn't need to look like the default set up.

If you're interested I'll U2U you the URL of my shop site for examples of styling.

There are a couple of WordPress solutions too, you can just make pages or posts and add a buy button to them - nice and lightweight if you're just selling a small amount of stuff:

Or another option is to use BigCartel if you're ownly wanting PayPal payments - pro's are you don't have to host it so you're not responsible for security. YOu have to pay $9.99 a month to be able to customize it though.

Zencart all the way! Shit load of templates to download and customise. Paypal slips right in there too.

Opencart...Zencart, Magneto and all the other look like they're still stuck at the beginning of the internet.

I just don't understand why people use Magneto; granted it has load of functionality but it's seriously bloaty if you just want a simple straight forward cart. And the templating is a royal pain in the arse!

I hate Magento for the reasons Dom has stated TBH. Whittie loves it though, the weirdo.

There are some decent OpenCart themes for sale over on ThemeForest, or of course you can create your own.

Yet to have a look into developing my own plugins or adding functionality to Opencart though; can't imagine it's that difficult apart from it being OOP

Not much different (easier in fact) than something like osC. Here's an example to making your own shipping module:

It's alright... Doing a shop in Magento atm actually. Never seem to stick to one platform though, no idea why.

Zen / Oscommerce need to sort out their backend if they want to stay in the market, its so outdated now.

I agree, all the osC shops I've set up in the past I've had to do a shitload of modding just to make it have the same functionality as something like OC or Magento.

Good if you're already running WP but not sure about using just for a cart; would be a bit bloaty personally. Btw, do you mean Shopp plugin or Shoppe?

Shopp! Observational Dom is observational.

Lets be honest, pretty much all CMS's are bloaty! I guess it'll come down to what Ian is most comfortable using/templating/developing etc?

It'll come down to which is easiest to maintain stock and take money for stuff.

Not fussed at all how it looks, just need a catalogue of parts with prices for everything and the option to buy and pay for stuff.

The only little nicety would be stuff like weights and postage tariffs in there so it could work that out automatically but that's no biggie.
