Deano and Ste are the only people in the world interested in this.

Anna was the update, but Belle is the latest. It is a VAST improvement and how it should have been shipped originally.

Ste isn't interested. The N8 is the best phone ever made and Symbian is the peak of mobile OS development. No update could possibly make any of it better.

I thought the N8 was the best phone ever too, I didn't think it needed any updates (judging by the reports of people on here).

Far from it. I've never said it was great. If Nokia just released it with Belle in the first place it wouldn't have put people off so much.

Why would you upgrade to another one, when the N8 was wank, and their other phones have been wank.
Do you work for Nokia deano?

Didn't read the thread tbh, thought "Belle" was a new phone not OS / theme / whatever it is.

I gave up on Nokia shortly after Anna, so for the reason that they are now rubbish and should go away gracefully, I'm out.
Numberwang!

It's a shame Nokia have decided to kill themselves by carrying on with their own OS, their hardware is good.
I'd love my n97 mini back with android on it!

Eh? Belle has been in the making for a fair while (from what i remember before the Winmo deal) and Nokia have always said it'd be their last major update to the Symbian OS; although i believe they'll continue to use Symbian in their lower-end phones.
As has always been the case, the N8 is technically a brilliant phone but it was heavily let down by the shoddy Symbian OS.
And i'm confused of all the now hate for Nokia, their Lumia series look pretty impressive and WinMo7 isn't that bad of an OS.

Too little too late Dom, WinMo7 didn't have much traction before Nokia went with them. Being paid hundreds of millions to use it on their hardware won't suddenly make it any better.

WinMo is slowly, granted slower than Microsoft probably hoped, getting interest and last article i read showed a decent increase in WinMo phones. I don't think Nokia have got anything to worry about regarding designing/building handsets, they've always looked decent and as said the recent Lumia handsets looks brilliant (certainly better than most handsets currently on the market).
But i agree that a lot is riding on Microsoft and what it intends to do with WinMo, although 8 certainly looks promising.
Edit - I think if Nokia did end up shit creek with regards to WinMo then they'd probably opt for Android. Certainly they were originally look at Android before Microsoft handed them a big load of cash.

I haven't upgraded the phone, just the OS. Just like an iPhone 4 going from iOS4 to iOS5 etc.
TBH on first impressions Belle has made the N8 bearable, therefore I won't be upgrading when it's due in March / April. Saving myself £25 per month on a SIM only deal is far too appealing at the moment.

Deano, did it install ok? Is there a noticeable difference between Anna and Belle? Any new features?

Yeah installed fine - just don't touch the screen during installation even when it asks you to, otherwise it goes a bit mental.
All it does do is ask for a security code when you turn the phone on, put it in right or wrong and it just lets you in the phone, weird.
New features? Quite a few. 6 home screens, other operating features just making things a bit more intuitive and quicker. One of the main differences is you can put application per application on the home screen, instead of 4 at a time, then move them around where you want, plus between home screens.
More software available too through the Store.
Manages it C: space better too so you don't get out of memory warnings.

It has reset all settings like that which is a pain, even Profiles and some apps are missing. Mine started pissing me off previously but I couldn't be arsed removing stuff so it is nice starting from scratch again.
WiFi, Bluetooth, Play Via Radio widgets and the like are a nice though.

Do people still buy Nokias?
They must be on the cusp of throwing in the towel.
