I have been offered a bmw 316ti compact on a 2004 plate quite cheap(few hundred quid)

only problem being its a non runner due to poor compression on cylinders 1 & 2.

its in silver with 83k on clocks, loads of history with plenty t&t

Cheers

Probably worth fixing although I'd be concerned about supply of parts, how much is a working engine?

Exactly that, buying stuff for them. I know when Ste and I had a 406 and a Vectra to fix, I had a choice of very cheap things all over the place and he had to go main dealer. Even if you get a breaker engine you might still need to replace things that break while you're doing it or if it doesn't run right afterwards.

Might just be head gasket between the 2 cylinders? Or a bent valve or two, I'd buy it and whip the head off first, gasket kit can't be much and some head bolts.
Has it just had a compression test? What about a leak down test?

If it needs an engine ring around scrapyards. Most of the time they have no clue what they area selling, especially smaller places.

Just bought two E39 Hella headlights for 70 quid. A set on eBay went for 270 yesterday

Seems like a really good deal that.

worth 3/4 k as said so for £400 plus some repairs ?

Even if the shop had to change rings, would be about £300/£400 ?
