My basement flooded last night, which is where all my set up is...

Hd's, router, switch, cables etc. Luckily I've still not got a synology box I said I want.

Router was instantly fucked, won't turn on. That's sat in rice atm, as are the harddrives, the switch is broken too but i couldn't GAF about.

Question is....

As above in the pic, you can see water all over the cables, its inside too, when I unplugged them water was inside. Best to replace the wall unit? (Obviously wires coming downwards would be alright).

Thanks

If it's just been fresh water I think it'll be fine if you dry it out properly.

I'd do that first before buying a new one.

Personal experience of a similar issue says yes I would replace them, cut as much of the incoming cable back as possible

Don't really need one there to be fair, faceplate suffices.

Obviously have one in the actual room it leads to.

If theres ever a chance of it happening again, I would re-cable the basement in external grade cat 5 then it wouldn't be a problem.

Put all comms in a rack cabinet bolted to the wall as high up as possible.

The black/dark purple cable (yet to see cat cable in black/dark purple, usually reels i use is the usual grey/yellow/blue) looked similar to the coax i've been using and thought it was 'interesting' way to feed coax about; don't mind me

As mentioned, if the cabling has been submerged then ideally cut it back and re-terminate. Otherwise let it all dry out properly and it should be fine. Although i'd recommend putting your connections/wall-socket in a IP65 box and mount gear as high as possible.
