im a bit unsure yet but im toying with the idea of ether breaking the corsa for bits or just selling it as it is OR doing some 'take off the road' work to it
still unsure as of yet but we'l see how i pans out....
our lass has got into her head getting a practical more door C, one of those 1.3cdti's, purely for the cheap tax, insurance and general running costs....
any other ideas on what'd be good for:
MUST BE VAUXHALL!!
cheap tax
cheap fuel
cheap insurance
low maintenance
BUDGET OF AROUND 2.5K OR LESS
practical for a small family
standard
i was suggesting one of the astra H's with this 1.3cdti engine in but they seem to go for a fair bit more money than the corsa's of the same/similar age
also other questions are
what would be best to do with the B
break it to fund another vauxhall project
sell it as it is to fund another vauxhall project
or have that as a project/toy to fuck about with and improve
for those who haven't seen the B here it is
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/viewthread.php?tid=602758&page=19
im more so looking forward to building another corsa or a nova maybe XE it or something... not sure yet
what's people views ether on what to get for the above description or what id get for the corsa in bits as opposed to selling it whole
any serious help/idea are welcome and appreciated
Jed

I would try and sell your corsa, if that fails then you'll have to break it.
I would then probably go for the 1.3cdti corsa if you want a cheap to run car, but would get a 3 door so you can at least mod it a little (seen as you obviously like doing that).
If you wanted a project aswell when money allows, then a nova would be good as you keep going on about them

the 2.5kish/less is sorted and put aside if needs be... what id get for the corsa is play money for the next project but i dont know if id actually get more in bits... at least that way it'd be a steady flow of cash as bits sell

aye, i said astra, but the mrs is moaning about tax and fuel costs and tbh im not arsed about something big, its going to be a daily hack to me... wont show it any love as such, its just to get me to work and out and about tbh...
i suggested a couple of hundred quid scrapper run about but then its a case of what's wrong with it, what'll go wrong with it and not many have the lower tax bracket...
the lower tax bracket and low fuel costs are the key thing here mate... means more money to put into the toy/build really
also insurance isn't too bad... currently 23 years old, got 3 points for a ts30 on a licence iv had for 3years or so and i paid £600 tpft on the 1.6 corsa

i was doing this last night and worked out 'ROUGHLY'... everything... including the shell worst case scenario i COULD get almost 1k'ish for it and obviously more if i hold out and advertise bits well
have a quick skip through my thread if you wish but basically its got:
good running x16xe engine £200 with ecu loom and auxiliaries maybe??
vx inlet with all bits £100
stainless 4.1 mani £paid 50 but say 35ish
mint tigra 5 spoke wheels £depending on tyres say £150
jamex dampers all round with jamex 60mm rear and spax 30mm fronts £60-70 full kit?
de-cat and sportex centre welded together £30 (also have a powerflow stainless here i paid 30 for so£30)
decent stainless 3" back box £30 or keep??
sport interior in good condition £30 (also got some cali black front leathers but mite keep them)
all the cloth trim upholstery is done black £20
homes made depos, ultra smoked rears £20 and £30?
good f15 box with linkage etc.. £40?
shafts £what they worth?
hubs £what they worth?
gsi calipers with recent pads and discs £40?
b.new drivers side mount... all the other mounts are spot on £?
b.new rad £?
SMOOTHED post 97 front bumper and got a pre 97 smoothed rear in progress.. could do a deal on full kit with arches maybe £80?
tigra scuttle and all the little bits will add up... ££
r.axle?
tie bars?
if you add it all up an estimate of what they roughly go for, then there's ether the scrap value of the shell or if someone wants to buy that.... only problem with the shell is its had a small front end shunt at some point in its poor life, the Xmember is welded up solid but the slam panels a bit bent still... planned on changing that but ya nah...
few petty rust marks here and there but nothing bad really... patch on n/s door and small dent in o/s door... underneath is fairly solid
please note this is defiantly not a forsale add just weighing up my options

This.
Clio 1.5 dCi is a better car, is a lot of "horror" stories about problems with the corsa's 1.3 diesel engine.
If you really want a vauxhall get a 1.7 dti.

They are in band D, so £95 for the year I think.
They use an Isuzu engine rather then a Fiat engine that's in the 1.3 Cdti.

But the more powerful dCi, extreme 2 models I believe they are called have £20 a year tax, 65mpg and group 7 insurance, really good if you can find that model which is also 80bhp rather then normal specced one which is 65bhp I think, £30 tax and sligtly less mpg.
