Being a RC plane boff I know sod all about the cars its all new to me!

I just bought my missus a Traxxas nitro car with the 2.5 racing engine (I dont even know what size CU that corrasponds to?).... She'd always wanted one since she was a kid because he bro was into them but her dad would never get her one

I'm trying to work out what fuel it should be running? For the planes I used to always get the basic Model Technics fuel but for the car stuff I keep seeing "Optifuel" and people talking about various mixes (16%, 20%, 25%).

now I'm assuming the higher the mix the higher the nitro content? But what is good for this particular car? There isnt really much obvious info the net as I think its quite old?

it usually says in the manual, my old hpi was on something like 16% iirc, i think 25% is for the bigboy stuff

"You may use 10% or 20% nitro-content fuel.Use the same
percentage all the time; don’t switch back and forth between
10% and 20% fuel. If you break-in your engine on 20% fuel, then
always use 20% fuel."

i would try to find out what its been run on before, people always bung in any old fuel and then they pop.

I've had several and always run them on 20%.

10% will run crap, 16 is ok, 20 is bang on.
Thats around a 3.5cc engine.

25% nitro is difficult to tune.

The heat sink head just makes the engine look big lol, yep it will be around 3.5cc/.15cu.

Thats actually quite a big engine for a nitro car.

More like 3cc tbh

Nitro cars are the nuts. I've just bought my third one. I've got a hyper 7 black, thunder tiger mta4 and a tomahawk vx.

I bought a HPI drifting thing, crashed it last year (broken prob shaft) and now it's just under my bed getting dusty

I'd rather get it fixed tbh. Only had a bout 20 minutes play with it then I crashed it.

Just need the motivation and to find somewhere that can fix them.

The prospect of taking RC cars apart can be quite daunting, but once you do it, providing that you're organised, it isnt too hard.

I've only been using nitro cars for about a year. I knew NOTHING about them when i first started out, and it was a nightmare when i kept stripping gears etc. I've learnt a lot though...and my top tip is to use threadlock

I would but I've got no idea how to do it. Plus it needs new part/s, plus the fuels probably congealed and gone bad.

Took it out for a test run on friday night after work and let the missus have a blast, I said "Dont give it too much I've not tuned it yet".. She instantly gave it full beans and started doing donuts which was followed by a <POP> and now power

After further investigation it appeared three of the five head bolts were snapped

I took it out again on saturday with a new set of bolts (and set the controller to 50/50 split to save her from thrashing it too much) it now goes really well

I dont think its going to last more than five minutes in her hands though.
