Please discuss.

I would like to buy a cheapie turbocharged motor vehicle and do it up as a project. Ali G's R5 in his movie looked cool!

For reliability I believe them to be as bad as each other.

I would prefer the 'scort' over the R5.

How much do you think it would cost roughly to rebuild the engine + turbo?

I love RST's. For the power they have, they are a quick little car and highly tunable. Best left looking pretty much standard on the outside and all the money spent on the engine.

R5GTT are not bad cars either, just heavy clutch n handling (Can't say as i've not driven one, just from information).

I'd say the RST is the better car, but i do like R5GTT as well. Cheap quick little motor!

R5 to unreliable, over heat way way to easy. i know rst's aint the best for reliability but still better thsn a r5 gtt, altho there great fun especially on a track

R5 heat issues can be sorted though with decent engine mods. An intercooler would be on of the first things on my list.

My mate has a mint ERST. Late H plate spotless everywhere - we were doing 70 overday and the bonnet flipped, smashed bonnet, ripped wings inside, scuttle panels bent and roofs slightly dented Very fast car though.

Bonnet looks miles better in this pic than it actually is, AA bloke had to use big wooden blocks to bend it back so we could drive it

I've got a Corsa and a 5 GTTurbo, and the 5 is miles better, so put Corsa on your poll and i'd vote for that.

Reliability problems with the 5 can be easily sorted, and they are rapid little cars, I've never driven an Escort Turbo, so i can't comment on them.

Chris he did pay £3800 not long ago so it should be. I think the bonnet catch caught against the cooler hence what happened fucking lucky the screen didnt smash in our face and roof wasnt too bad
