Any care to shed light on this?

Just got in from a friends house watching the barca game tonight, travelled up a couple of junctions up the M1 was behind a dawdler all the way to the on ramp, got on the motorway, booted it a bit, went past 2 cars, one in the middle lane, one in the slow lane next to each other,i got up to 80-90ish then pulled back into the slow lane next to the hard shoulder and cruised along around 70ish

then in the outside lane notice a car come up pretty quick (noticed as its only me and 2 other cars on the whole stretch)

suddenly turns his lights out (im thinking, whats this knob doing) then the alternate flash like police on a blue light run comes on, but just the lights at the front flashing, comes right up behind me, im thinking "opps time for a bollocking" then he gets along side, theres only one bloke in there with what looked like a hoodie, unmarked car couldnt see his face then suddenly boots it off into the distance, im left pootling along thinking

....... da fuck was that about? plain clothes cop? or some random twat who goes after late night speeders vigilante style? either way im confused lol

If he didnt have blue lights then it's not a copper.

I know unmarked cars do the alternate lights thing but they have blue ones behind the grill. I spoke to a cop years ago when I got pulled over and he said you should not stop unless you see blue lights. Can't seem to find anything online about it though.

ive been 'pulled' by a plain clothed copper in a fiesta once who didnt have blue lights but he was infront of me and just stopped in the middle of the road

nah he had his hood down normally, couldnt see because it was too dark on the driver side of the car

I've seen some with no blue lights, they said they follow cars and call for a marked car but I don't think they chase people like that though

Says in the highway code, that you must stop or get out of the way for blue lights (or move over for green). Someone flashing headlights, even side ways, i wouldnt stop

Same thing happened to me on the Forth Road bridge, I put the foot down thinking it was some dick head. Turns out it was a copper, 2 of them, 4 points and a court appearance later....
