Soooo... 168.5 mile round trip. Brimmed the tank before departure and when returned.

And results are in: 12.47 litres of diesel used. 61.43 MPG or 4.6litres/100km.

All from a 1800kg 3 litre diesel powered car!

To say I am over the moon is an under statement!

Yeah I am sure.

Reset trip computer, brim the tank. Drive to airport and back. Go to same petrol station and brim the tank again.

On my way there I sat behind lorries at 50-55 mph, engine was doing about 1500 rpm

This is when I was near the airport

Didn't really mind it on the way there. Just turned up the music, cruise control on and away I went.

on the way back it was a bit more boring

I did similar a few months ago, 50mile journey and managed 40.1 indicated on my computer, just tucked in behind a lorry and settled with the cruise control.

Different story on the way home though, barely made 20mpg

I did this once in the megane. 56 in 6th down dual carrdige way for about 20 miles, so figure i could do 130 all the way home and use the same amout of fuel as i usally would on the normal combinded cycle
