My mum and uncle both had the HGT 1.8 version of that model and didn't have any issues with them, but that was from new.

I own a HGT Punto.
Steering racks when put on full lock.
Gearboxes.
Cambelts.
Head gaskets.
Air bag lights.

Make sure there is a lot of paperwork and service history, as a badly serviced engine will not do you good.

Make sure all the electrics work as well, turn the headlights on, if there is a little yellow light on the dash when you turn them on then there is either a bulb out or a lighting fault.

I have one as my daily driver. They seem to constantly feel light up front. As if you have 10,000 psi in the tyres and that the steering rack is made from sawdust. Had lots of niggly problems with mine too including electrical faults. But hey, it gets me from A-B so cant complain.
