Those of you with road legal track cars. Do you have them permanently insured for track use or do you insure them for track as and when needed?
What are the costs like? If insured for track permanently does it bump up the premium loads?
Also, how do insurance companies react to stripping interiors, bucket seats/harnesses etc etc?

Mine is not insured at all, not expensive enough to warrant it. Depends what you're planning to use.

Go home in a mood. You aren't liable for anything either btw only your own damage

So if I was on track, lost it, and took out a £100k Porker i'd not be liable for any damage to it?

oooh I see.
Sod trackday insurance then tbh.
What if you caused a crash an someone was seriously injured or killed? Still no liability?

If you are driving dangerously and if the marshalls are doing there job then you will be black flagged anyway

They could probably sue you for something or other but I think it would be fairly clear the other people who are out of pocket or dead would have accepted the risks as presented to them before taking part.

Okay. Cool. Not that i'd ever be driving like a tit anyway, but wasn't sure what the deal was with insurance.

I never had trackday insurance for any of the 30+ trackdays I done in the Corsa.
However if I had a 100k+ car I would get trackday insurance.
But then if I had a car valued that much then you can afford the premium and the extortionate excess.
It has alwas been a case of you bend it you mend it and you are only liable for your own damage.
My insurance actually went down with the strippage and the cage, but only because it was insured on a limited mileage, I had access to another car as my everyday car, specialist insurance and I'm old.
Some companies offer to insure for a couple of trackdays a year, but only if you pay an extra premium and the excess gets increased.

Wouldn't be my daily car. Thinking of picking up a cheap old shape Astra VXR when the new one comes out, as I expect there will be some decent, low mileage ones about for good money.
It will be on limited mileage ins too.

I have a limited mileage, agreed value policy so I can drive mine on the road. Because the type of policy I have, it means everything I do to the car is covered and I don't need to tell them if I do new stuff to it, unless its a major change

as stated above track day insurance is not always needed
my first ever track day (Castle Combe with WR @ Performance Action Day) i took out track insurance at the cost of £50 with morris insurance (covering the cost of the car)
after 15 minutes on track and a day spent watching everyone else i realize it really wasn't necessary. as much as i don't want to ding a £50k speed machine, they dont want to ding me either, which only left me running out of skill and hitting a barrier.
as such, knowing the limits of the car and my own talent accepted that risk and have not taken out insurance since.
i did however take out insurance when i went to the Ring, again only covering the value of the car which cost me £80, my mate in his CooperS cost him £100.
but again it wasn't needed, we did see one accident while we were there, but we didnt go to race the clock, only for the experience. it depends on what risks you take on track, and how happy you are to drive (and recover) at the edge of the car's/drivers limits.
