Yes, you should have appropriate footwear.
Also, having moved a car with no shoes on before, what a stupid thing to do.

Only time I've had slippy pedals is when my feet are wet and using metal pedals.

I can stand on a surfboard or windsurfer with no shoes on in wet conditions on a near vertical wave; I don't slip off so wherein would it be stupid to drive barefooted?
quote: IT IS not an offence to drive in bare feet provided that you are able to operate the controls safely. This would preclude drivers with wet or sweaty feet. Whether fellow passengers would find barefoot driving offensive is another issue.

Just been looking and don't think it's actually illegal, just stupid. It could be classed under another offence if it was the cause of a crash.

I do it sometimes on hot days. You can definitely get a better feel for the pedals.

I often drive bare foot in the summer. In fact I think I have better control when I do

I would say driving in plimsoles with no grip on the bottom is far worse; feet are naturally grippy - I used to get up, put on shorts and rash vest and drive to my job teaching windsurfing and sailing barefooted, a 30mile round trip. I got out of my car, onto a boat, then back in the car and home. I never had a crash in the 5 years that I did it for

I don't think I will, I'm not really interested in proving it was the cause.
Next big thing for racing drivers, no shoes.

I like driving barefoot, I don't do it regularly and its not much fun with lots of clutch operation either.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR:
"The thinner the sole, the better the pedal feel, the greater the control."
Worn for fire protection as much as anything IMO

I'll continue driving, as advised, with appropriate footwear.

If I'm wearing flip flops then I drive bare foot. Why is it dangerous?

I drive in socks occasionally. but then my pedals are small and close together
You can feel the pedals more than you can if you have big clumpy boots on.

Did you wax up your pedals before using them though...
I've done it a couple of times when I've been in the middle of something else and had to move the car, I much prefer having shoes on but if I needed to drive barefoot all the time I think I'd manage.
Also, John in incorrect statement horror
