SPL - Sound pressure levels
Basically how loud you car goes, higher db, louder the system.

u'll here people mention decibels (db), thats the pressure level reached inside a particular volume.....basically as austin said, higher = louder!

for every 3dB gain the loudness has doubled.
so 89 dB is twice 86 dB

not so, its a sliding scale. At about 140dB, 3 dB increase is double in volume, but at 177dB, 0.2dB is double in volume. Understand?

trying to find a graph at the moment. It is for this reason, new world records go up 0.1dB at a time. Its so hard to get that extra something from a sound system.

Isnt it true that above a certain db(maybe 140 i think i heard) you have to double the amount of power in the system to get like 1 more bd of some quite small gain anyway???

thats wot i mean by it being on a sliding scale, like i said, at about 140dB, a 3dB increase is a double in volume or double in power. Beyond that, it starts getting a little more tricky.
Kris, couldnt find any graphs.
