Bought some wind deflectors off the bay a couple of weeks ago and when they arrived they were smashed to bits. They were 2nd hand from just a private seller. I messaged the seller telling him about it and he said it's the royal mails fault and a refund must be issued through them.( I would argue that they weren't properly packaged however) he asked me for some photos of the damage and I sent immediately. He replied saying he would call the post office and get a claims form. And That's the last I've heard. I've tried messaging and heard nothing and it's been over a week now. Shall I try make a claim through ebay? Cheers guys.

Take it to PayPal and start a claim, submit a photo to them and it will be an open/shut case in your favour.
If it genuinely is royal mail at fault it will be down to the item sender to make the claim for the damage, that could take a while so claim your money back via eBay/PayPal and let him worry about the damage.
