Hello, as title, I'm looking for a watch that's going to be able to take a bit of abuse. It'll be used for work so might get covered in oil, grease, spirits and just other crap in general plus it might be bounced about a bit.
My obvious thought was a G-shock but I was wondering if there's anything else out there similair. only requirements would be a rubber/ plastic strap so ot doesn't absorb shit and it to be under about £100. Anyone able to suggest anything?

fits the bill meant to have a 7 year battery too. for your £100 you could have watches for the rest of your life

I have one of those cheap ass casios for work, does the job and cheap enough to get another if it gets broken.

Fair enough point with the casios, would prefer something that's a bit more sustainable though I think
I genuinely thought about that SAS watch but figured it would be a bit out of my price range. I'll probably just go for a g-shock, if anyone's got any recommendations for good sites post away

What do you work as? Iv had a £12 casio watch from argos for 4 years and still works and no problems. I work offshore as a mechanic so its regularly covered in oil, getting caught in tight spaces etc and still fine apart from all the colouring wearing off it. Batterys lasted fine aswell, has a stop watch and alarm if its ever needed

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

I've got a G-shock. Must of had it around two-three years now. Hardly take off and its still completely fine. Wear it for everything, the only thing i've ever taken it off for is when it's gets in the way and when i went scuba diving as the strap was too small to go over my wetsuit.

This was one of my only concerns, sometimes I might need to stick my hand in somewhere tight and I wouldn't want to have to be taking it off every 2 minutes. Not really too much of a concern though tbh!
To everyone saying get the casio - if I wanted just a watch for telling time I'd probably go for it but I don't want to purposely get something that I know won't be up to the job then be left without when I swing my wrist off a bearing housing by mistake

How do you think it'd fair if I jumped off a pedestal, lost my footing and smashed my wrist off the floor? Not to say that's going to ever happen, but I'd quite like a watch that I wouldn't need to worry about if anything like that actually happened

I recon it would probably be ok if you did it once, but maybe not multiple times..
I have dropped big lumps of concrete on it before and it lived, but dont forget they are less than £10 for a new one so what does it matter if it did break.
Also they are unbelievably light, you dont even know your wearing it.

Tbh it sounds like you would be better off with a pocket watch.

I genuinely did think about a pocket watch 3cm, I wear overalls so could just bung it in a breast pocket. But then I relised it's not the 1920s any more and I'm not Fred Dibnah
Currently just looking at G-shocks and pretty much just deciding using a mixture of looks and price

I was only thinking of this the other day.
I got one of those cheap £1.99 rubber band watch thingys for work, however it looked mega ghey.
Outside of work i wear a pretty big Omega, so my wrist feels weird without a watch.
Ive been looking for a 2nd hand seiko diver, as they are all but indestructable.
Something like the "arnie" as it looks "rugged"
