when someone with a high powered let that runs a f20 and it breaks what parts inside the box actually breaks?

probably the gears on the input or lay shaft, increased bhp means more stress on the teeth making contact with each other and attempting to transfer more torque than they were designed for

I noticed when fitting my f20 back to my let, the input shaft on the f20 is tiny compared to the one on the f28
not sure what part fails though, will probably be able to tell you in a few months when it goes lol

Everything breaks gears shafts the lot and expect about two weeks out of each box !
But on the plus side they are lighter than an f28 and ratios are good

You do know what the numbers mean on the gearbox's ?
Its what ftlb torque they will take !
F20 takes 200ftlb and an f18 takes 180ftlb

Ive heard of F20's taking good power without issue's, but also heard of them taking not so good power, with issue's.
Start smashing through the box willy nilly, and it won't last. Take some care, feed the boost in etc, and im sure they will last a reasonable amount of time.
Also, im sure Specky was running an F18 at some point with mega power going through it. Im pretty sure it was on the F18 when it recorded 1 of its highest top speed runs too.

that is what i have heard, supposedly they use the f18w because longer between gear changes so less stress.

It all comes down to what you class as good power?

If your looking at 400whp then why you cutting corners and not putting the right box for it?
Your going to be best part of around 10k for the engine and then to fit a £50 gearbox when there is better/stronger gearboxes out there?
F28 or F23 only boxes i would use.
Last time i spoke to Powell with the 500+ White Tigra he had done 4 F28's in a year, if F20's where up for it why would he be spending £250+ on a box when he could throw a F20 in?

I've killed 4 f28's in the last 3 years. my 5th box is pretty much done for in 3rd gear now. i wouldn't even joke about fitting an f20 when you will end up with a considerable amount of torque if you're aiming for 400 at the wheels.

Internet myth.
I know for a fact f18 is stronger than a f20,
Same car killed an f20 every time it went to pod with one fitted, even on road legal tyres,
Then with more power, full on drag slicks, its never killed an f18,
All on a car running 10's, sooo a fair bit of power.
But I agree with beardy get an f23
