people buy these sort of cars as a statement, so they can tell everyone they are doing the world a big favour. when infact they are just enjoying their cash and people with rose tinted greenpeace glasses don't realise.

I don't agree with this zero road tax. If your using the roads you should pay something.

And it works out that people who can afford new eco friendly cars get away with it but people who can only afford an old banger fork out £200 odd a year

I pay 260 a year for my Clio 172 and do about 2k. Get about 40mpg

My mates brand new Beemer is £70 odd a year because it's 'eco' yet he redlines in every gear (on a free fuel card) and gets worse mpg than me. Plus he does 30+ k a year. Dosnt make sense

it's not road tax though, so your argument doesn't exist. it's vehicle excise duty.

If you can afford to buy one of these, then you're more than likely a multi bijillionaire, paying more taxes than anybody else. Give them a break
The car is awesome!

Road tax doesn't go back on the roads, it's just another tax.

That cars probably 94mpg until you hit 10mph then it's down to about 20mpg.

No such thing as road tax really.

Road maintainance comes out of local council budget, its just another tax as sunz said.

Should be in with fuel, the more you use the more you pay. Simple. Only rare occasion does it not work is those that use fuel for off road use.

I pay my £120 or whatever a year, are you suggesting that as a cyclist I should pay again for something that emits no CO2?

Road tax or car tax or excise duty or VED, doesn't matter what you call it, it's still disparate and unfair and not at all based on environmental impact as those wankers who dreamt it up would have you believe.

Its all bullshit all this "Eco Friendly" car shit. The bit they dont tell you about is the carbon footprint is massively increased when building all these eco electric vehicles etc. I had to look at it all in Uni and it actually worked out the eco cars actually have a larger carbon footprint than normal petrol engine cars during their lifetime mainly thanks to the production of batteries and other rare earth based resources used in these vehicles.

I own 2 cars of which I pay 2 lots of road tax yet I can only drive one at any time. This to me is greatly unfair. Im paying to leave a car at home.
