I know there is one of these weekly, but having sold my Astra GSi last week, I am need of another car to get about/to and from work.
£6k (maybe £7k for the right car)
<80k
05>
Diesel (unless the mpg is 35mpg + urban driving as that is most of my driving)
5 door also
Would like something nippy(ish) so not really after 1.2s etc. Insurance isn't a great issue either
I have been looking a Mondeo ST TDCi's at around the £6k mark, what else can be got for that kind of money which may of slipped my mind?

Not anywhere near 50mpg urban driving.
If you are looking at any cars there will be forums full of problems.

Looked at/test drove an astra, but I don't really want another as i've had 2 now + g/box problems put me off!
I've seen a few 150bhp Leon TDi FR's with the cupra styling which look really smart but not sure how big they are, would need to be able to get a bike in the back until I can get a roof bike rack.

This is a good point in both respects.
These diesels are great on the motorway but urban your looking at 30+mpg for something with decent power, if you want 50mpg you going to have to get a little 1.5 dCi or something similar and drive it every so gentle in the "urban" sense.
All cars have problems, Meganes for example, have issues with the electrics, Astras seem to have issues breaking gear boxes etc Just buy the one you like the most and make sure it's been well looked after as you will never find something that's 100% reliable, end of the day you will miss a decent motor if your going to listen to what the internets tell you about reliability.
People do topics - Help my Meganes windows don't work but they hardly do - praise the lord my Meganes been fault free for 40,000 miles topics.
I have to agree on Megane dCi 175, if you can find one.

Love my 1.9 dCi

That's the thing with me trying to find a car I love the Astra cdti Sri with the xp kit and full leather but don't like the problems they have, I've looked at seat Ibiza fr, golf gt tdi's mk5 and most other small hatchback diesels it some of the interiors look rubbish I want something that looks good and had a nice interior but I think ive finally settled on a a3 tdi s line when I can find one
