The iPad 3 gets the retina display which really is noticebly better than the 2.. Other than that thought it depends how much you want to pay the extra
If the 4G was compatible with future UK services I'd go with a 3 but as its not you're probably better off getting a 2 and waiting for the iPad 4

I didnt notice a massive difference when I sold my 2 for a 3 apart from the obvious screen and bit faster. I would still recommend a 3 though as you will get more if you sell later and who can be bothered waiting such a long time until the 4.

I had my 3 next to my gf's mums' 2 and the difference in the screen was just amazing, it made the 2 look awful!

The 4 is too far away to "wait" for it.
For the sake of £100, get the 3. Well worth it imo

There's a massive difference between the screens. I went for the 2 with 3G as I thought the extra £100 was better spent on that for what I need it for, but if you're going to mainly be using in the house or somewhere with wifi then think about going for the 3.

Only if you don't own a phone that can share internet connection.
Paying extra for a 3G modem seems pointless when most people are running around with one in their pocket anyway.

WiFi model doesn't have GPS. A Bluetooth GPS receiver costs as much as the 3G upgrade and the people using them for the same application as me say the compatible/recommended ones aren't all that great.

Why would you need GPS on your iPad though when you've got one of those in your pocket too?

Ok if you need to use that specific app on your iPad whilst you're out and about but I'd say thats a limited scenario and not worth an extra £100 to the majority of people.

Ed, how have you got the iPad mounted in the plane - proper mount or do you just have it sitting on the other seat?

You said "If you're going to be using it mainly in the house or somewhere with wifi then get the 3."
Just get the 3 anyway and use your phone for 3G even if you're not only using it in the house or with wifi (unless you fly planes).
