Anyone ever heard of this happening..........
I sold my Golf before I moved to Australia, new owner signed V5 etc, DVLA sent me letter to say car was no longer in my name etc.
Some Fuck faced arse candle has bought a gearbox using my cars details and did not pay, Police arrive at my Dads door............surely the DVLA should have said I no longer own the car?

I don't have a clue how they managed it, Police came round and said that the gearbox was bought for a VW Golf with the same registration as mine. Don't really know how it happened to be honest, fake card details?? Ave heard of identity theft etc, but registration theft???

Haha, its mental. My Dad had the same problem like 25 years ago when his car caught fire, insurance wrote it off and some guy bought it, fixed it, then accumulated lots of parking tickets and speeding tickets............Police turned up at my Dads door.

Accumulating speeding tickets is understandable.
Buying a gearbox isn't.

I can add that the culprits were 'foreign'.

Unless they used the value of the car to secure a loan to buy the gearbox

Not cloned is it, they've asked for a reg plate so they can check that the gearbox is correct and they've supplied yours.
Reg plate could come from anywhere, seeing it in the street, for sale ad, whatever.

Because you know the reg.
The DVLA have all the old keeper details for every car, they don't delete you and put the new guy in the same record.

Is there a lot of planning that goes into this? Or do you just start typing and it flows instantly from the finger tips?

when i had my old corsa someone was driving round with my plates on it in kent. got flashed by a couple of speed cameras and the bill came to me. it was a right ball ache trying to explain that i had never been to kent and my shitty corsa probably wouldnt even survive the 600 mile round trip. had to prove it wasn't me which involved a couple of trips to chester house police place in manc centre. must have cost me about 15 quid in travel and parking costs.

This will be the case and they have used stolen card details to buy the part. Hardly going to use their own ref are they! Probably got the reg from.your for sale add. Just have your dad show them the letter from DVLA if he hasn't already
