I think I know the answer to this, but I'm at home on a week off and no one to converse with!
I currently work at Nespresso, call centre essentially. High maintenance customer's, no end of courier (Yodel) and machine issues (mainly customer's can't use them properly and throw receipts away), rota shifts up to 7pm. Since my time here I applied for a Technical Specialist (person who oversees all pick ups, technical roleouts) role and a Deputy Team Leader (essentially consultant position which is shared amongst 4) So I have tried to progress but it hasn't happened for me.
Now because of all this I have been casually looking elsewhere. I have had 2 interviews for another job. Still phone based, but in an office and not a call centre. This job entails taking calls from prospect customers for a construction company, following up internet leads and sending out building specs etc. Its in sales but not sales for me. I got the job out of 5 applicants on the second interview.
During my interview they asked where I saw myself in 5 years. I said I wanted to eventually be in a coaching or training postion, as I'm quite good with new starters, helping others etc. They said this would not happen in this job as "it is what it is" and there are no staff members to train within a 5 man team.
I applied for a job which would suit the above at Neslte (Same building I am in now) which is ensuring factory staff have attended training courses, got right certicates and attend factories etc.
So really, at the moment I feel like I am taking a side step and the only advantage is no complaints and friendlier hours. But if Nestle come back to me and offer me an interview, would it be a bit shitty to accept?
So would others accept the new job and would you want to attend the interview for the other if offered?

Accept everything then take the best one.
I'd feel bad about it but you have to look after number 1.

It sounds like there isn't really any progression with the construction company, which would ok if you wanted to side-step for the friendly hours that you could then use to do a OU/after-hours type course but career-wise it'd seem a little pointless.
As for it being shitty, it is but it doesn't sound like you'd be burning any bridges and you have to think about number 1!

Are you employed below your qualifications? Have you got any education / experience that qualifies you for a job as a coach?

My qualifications are in a different industry which I left behind 7 years ago!
My only experience now is that I have worked in an office environment for 6 years and in that time unofficially trained/helped others.
The Nestle job appeals due to my factory background.

Something else about Nespresso, we are getting an ever increasing number of technical calls and not enough technical people to take them. I opted for sales as I am sick of customer attitude, the product and people not keeping receipts. We also use DPD for pick ups, which in theory is a great service, just never works.
I have been asked 6 times by different people if I want to move to the tech team, I take a lot of tech calls on sales as it is, and I have said no each time.
My team leader has just emailed me at home asking me again as they are reconfiguring the teams this week. I said no again and he replied saying the other team leaders were going to move me regardless but he said no.
Can't wait to hand notice in now.

How desperate are you to leave Nespresso? Would it not be easier to stay and hunt out a better position/job rather than heading to something (construction place) that is a bit of a dead-end?

Well I will have been at Nespresso 2 years in October and within that time things have only got worse. Not meaning the conditions, just the way the company is run, and I have no input what so ever being a lowly office worker so it s a case of put up or leave!
Excluding myself, 5 people left this month!

I'm currently a training coordinator within the nhs, organising training on a site with 2500 staff, seems to be some opportunities to move up but most of our training officers already have the quals before joining the nhs. I side stepped from a different dept as they were arsey about internal training etc. Where I'm at now I'm putting myself forward all the time. Have you looked at the public sector?

I turned down a council job before I started Nestle, it was a 6 month placement in the enviromental and public customer services. They couldn't tell me what I would be paid and what what happen after 6 months. They said I would more than likely find work in another department. Being interviewed in a stock room didn't help..

My Career is a big mess haha. I studied Audio Technology with Multimedia which focused on Audio and IT, once finishing this I then went into the film industry doing bits and bobs as a camera assistant, work never really picked up so I joined a construction company and became a manager............hated it! Moved to Oz and started as a casual AV Technician with a huge company, you feel you are over qualified for some of the work but there seems to be scope for promotion. Unfortunately like a lot of jobs here I am employed on a casual basis to start with which doesn't guarantee hours, My worry is when I return to UK, i'll struggle!

Well the new company are offering me more basic than what I got including bonus last year. So I guess that decides it. I just don't know whether I will like the job, or do it for the money!

It was meant to be a trainee thing as I was offered the position years previously when labouring in the summer holidays whilst at Uni, but after some firings I just ended up in charge by default.

Costs etc? Did you find it hard to get a new job as you were/are essentially without any experience as a welder. Only ask as my job is sucking the will to live out of me lol..

If u can afford to take risks take them . You will never know otherwise . I do loads of work that am far too qualified to do but fuck it if the money is there take it. I earn more doing a job a monkey could do than it can on what I trained for years to do
