Is being revealed as one of the people most involved in a huge tax avoidance scheme by The Times tomorrow.

Apparently he brings in £4m a year (that alone is pretty shocking), takes a £100k salary, sends the rest offshore then takes most of it as a "loan", therefore tax free.

Hope it's the end of his unfunny career TBH.

Although TBH I'm pretty sure it's just a massive loophole, so I'd probably do the same in his shoes.

I've heard he is the first of many to be 'exposed' like this

I'd 101% do the same if I earned that ££££

I dunno but given the times have only just published it, you might be thinking of something different?

It's on their homepage but you have to pay to see it.

Hammer is of course referring to the team he and his fellow fans talk about more than his own, Rangers

It'd be even funnier if, less than 12 months ago, he had done a piece slating Barclays for using a scheme that meant they paid less tax.

I'm guessing that the £4m is the income of whatever company he has set up to deal with his assets; I.e. Jimmy Carr LTD; I would guess from this amount he pays agent's fees, administrator fees, personal assistant etc etc etc so whilst the £4m sounds a lot, he won't be netting the whole amount anyway. Those people will most likely be paid above board so the amount of tax and NI being gathered outweighs the £100k he pays himself as a salary anyway. Personally don't see the problem and it's how almost every small-medium ltd company seems to operate anyway in terms of finding tax avoidance methods

He's doing nothing different to anyone else in similar shoes. Although i agree that he's not particularly funny, especially his live stand-ups.

I don't see a problem with that, exploiting a loop hole is a massive win in my books.

Isn't that the point though ? His getting 4 million a year, taxed on 50% so takes home 2 million and still needs to be a greedy cunt, understandable with someone body on "shite" wages wanting to do it but can't see why someone living way beyond comfortable still needs to be greedy. Yeah it's legal for now, but I'm sure they will put a stop to it soon.

Imagine what society would be like if everyone exploited tax loops holes.

Loops holes are no secret, it's up to HMRC to revise the rules accordingly to prevent this happening. Fair play to Jimmy Carr, given the choice of paying more tax than you 'have' to just so you can sleep at night and not worry about the rest of society GTF.

I see no real issue with people exploiting loop holes. My issue is with the loop holes themselves and why they exist . Some of my mates pay a pittance in tax compared to what they earn.

my girlfriends dad is an investigative accountant for inland revenue, he deals with high value cases so has probably worked on this case. he told us last week he was trying to get someone high profile but couldnt say who until it came out this week.

he said 1example of how it works is setting up a car dealership, buy 2 cars a year usually completely unseen for small amounts like £500, but get a loan out for that £500 with another dodgy "company" that theyre also somehow involved in that has an arrangement fee of a million quid.
