If I spend 160 a month on petrol doing about 200 miles a week or about 800 miles a month in a 1.4 16v sport Corsa B, what would I expect to pay in a 1.2 16v Corsa C? Also what would I expect to pay in a Corsa C 1.7 diesel?

i was getting similar in my corsa c, maybe closer to 300 a tank than 350 though. the diesel will do a considerable amount more miles for the amount of fuel. and when you think its only a massive 5p a litre more, thats not exactly a lot more money for an extra roughly 100-150 miles.

I converted my vectra to lpg and now instead of 440 miles on £75 i get 300 miles to £27. that's just on the tank size to fit in the spare wheel well. works out at 17p a mile on petrol or 9p a mile on gas. Absolutely no difference in performance and i tow using gas too.
Cost £400 to convert it and was paid for in 3 months with the miles I drive. also increased to value of my car too
I'd recommend it for fuel hungry cars or people who do the miles.
I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

I got 500 out of a tank in the 330d towing my corsa to pvs and back. Quite good on a run. Easy see over 600 if I wasn't towing to a tank.

looking at this "on paper"
Your current 1.4 Sport is capable of 37.7mpg
(Wisebuyers 1.4 16v Sport)
a 1.2 SXI+ Corsa C can get 48.7
(Wisebuyers 1.2 Corsa C)
a 1.7 SRi Corsa C is capable of 57.6
(Wisebuyers 1.7 Corsa C)
based on a 10 gallon tank (~45litres) you'd get
1.4 Sport = 377 miles from the tank
thus petrol @ 131.6/litre* = £59.22 to fill the tank = 15.7p per mile
1.2 Corsa C = 487 miles from the tank
thus petrol @ 131.6/litre* = £59.22 to fill the tank = 12.1p per mile
1.7 Corsa C = 576 miles from the tank
thus diesel @ 137.02/litre* = £61.65 to fill the tank = 10.7p per mile
so that is the break down of prices (based on theoretical MPG figures)
that 5p/mile saving going to the 1.7 Diesel will be offset by the more expensive diesel fuel costs (extra £2.43 every fill up)
after ~ 5000miles
1.4 would have cost £780 (in fuel)
1.2 would have cost £590 (in fuel)
1.7 would have cost £555 (in fuel)
(rounded figures)
but of couse it will never be as simple as that, this does not take into account of the initial cost of the car, insurance or tax which will all differ
*average fuel price found at http://www.petrolprices.com/

When Ste says £400 I'm sure he means £400 for parts, he would of fitted it himself.
