Today I went to the Australian Aviation Centre, and the main showpiece is the only B52 bomber in the Southern Hemisphere. Nothing could prepare me for the size of the plane, the engines and gunnery equipment are removed as they decided to symbolise it as an object looking for peace, rather than celebrate the raw destructive power of it. Simply awesome place to go, i was there for hours just gawping at all the pieces they have in the collection. It was really surreal knowing that these planes had been used to fight war. Just a few pictures of the B52 here as my camera battery died as i forgot to charge the battery.

There's one at Dunford I love the way it fills the whole hanger with loads of other planes all placed around it!

the whole point of the plane is about it's size and power to destroy.

saying it's looking for peace makes it sound like some kind of gay pride showpiece.

the whole point of the plane was to destroy its enemies. as it now has none, the weaponary has been removed to indicate peace. if you think a big plane without guns is gay, thats your decision.

as explained here. http://www.darwinsairwar.com.au/B52.html

If you were trying to promote peace, with an aircraft. Why the bloody hell would you choose a B52! Only aircraft that would be worse than the BUFF would be the nuclear bomb dropping B29!

Obviously it's after it's service life! Yeh it was destroying stuff when it was in service! But a soldier killed in war isn't buried with his gun is he? They have a peaceful service and celebrate his life and service. The ethos here is the same, it has served its purpose and now has its weaponry removed as the people of Darwin look ahead so Instead of remembering big guns etc, they use it as a reminder that they can live in peace.
